Of depression and Panna Cotta

Sunday, October 19, 2008
A super long post with lots of words, except at the end of the post. So scroll to the end for eye candies. Enjoy~

-----------------------------------

Was feeling kinda emo just now (more like VERY emo =.=). Don't ask - i won't tell why. And don't bother guessing, coz you'd get it wrong. Definitely.

Anyway, being depressed so suddenly made me feel slightly disorientated, and resulted in me being uber random. I started crying buckets, and nearly used up a whole tree worth of tissues. So much for saving the environment. I'll have to go without tissues for a week to compensate for that. (right...)

Then i started thinking of my stupid past. My blog IS called recollected memories for a reason after all - i recall my memories alot.

All of a sudden, i thought about Uncle Francis. He's my dad's close family friend, and is really friendly and stuff. But that's not the point. He took us to this fine dining Italian restaurant in KL called Ciao <-- clicky! (No, this is not an ad. I don't get paid) To those who understands Chinese, DO NOT THINK ANYTHING DIRTY.

According to Uncle Francis, h started up this caffe' ristorante together with a few of his friends. So he gets to take his friends over for a treat at a discounted price! We each had six small portions of pasta for appetizers. Yes, he custom ordered this for us - mainly me, coz i super love pasta and he wanted me to try out the variety of pasta they offered. I checked their menu on their web page, but i don't remember which pasta i had =.=

But i DO remembered what i had for my main course! It's Petto D'anatra All' Arancio! Don't ask me to pronounce that, k? It's worse than tongue twisters =X

If you're wondering what the hell is that, it's
pan-fried duck breast with grilled Belgium endive, a splash of Grand Marnier and orange sauce.

Of course, the best part is yet to come! No fine dining experience is complete without desserts! Uncle Francis ordered three desserts for all of us to share. I would've loved to have more, but all of us were pretty stuffed by then.

Their famous desserts are:

Tiramisu Classico
Layers of espresso soaked sponge fingers topped with mascarpone cream and dusting of cocoa powder

Panna Cotta Al Cioccolato
Creamy eggless Italian custard with coconut flavour, served with chocolate sauce

CrÈme Brule'
Orange and vanilla infused custard topped with thin caramelised sugar crust

My verdict? Creme Brule' was my least favourite. I loved their Tiramisu, but nothing compares to Panna Cotta! After having a spoon of it, i practically devoured it, leaving the rest of the desserts for the others. =P

Conclusion of this post? Lysa --> emo --> went temperamental --> became random --> craves for panna cotta.

WHY CAN'T I JUST SHUT UP AND CRAVE FOR CHOCOLATES INSTEAD? Where the hell am i supposed to look for Panna Cotta in the dead city of Nilai at this unearthly hour?!?!?!?!

Lysa

wants

PannaCotta!!!!!!

Disclaimer: I took these pictures from google. THEY BELONG TO THEIR RIGHTFUL OWNER NOT MINE DO NOT SUE ME.

Urgh... Lysa shall attempt to make them during the sem break. (if my mom allows =X After all, Lysa does gardening well, not cooking.) It seems pretty simple, so i'll try to persuade her...

Taken from FoodNetwork.com;

Ingredients
* 1 cup whole milk

* 1 tablespoon unflavored powdered gelatin
* 3 cups whipping cream

* 1/3 cup honey

* 1 tablespoon sugar

* Pinch salt

* 2 cups assorted fresh berries

Directions
Place the milk in a small bowl. Sprinkle the gelatin over. Let stand for 3 to 5 minutes to soften the gelatin.

Pour milk mixture into a heavy saucepan and stir over medium heat just until the gelatin dissolves but the milk does not boil, about 5 minutes. Add the cream, honey, sugar, and salt.
Stir until the sugar dissolves, 5 to 7 minutes.

Remove from the heat. Pour into 6 wine glasses so that they are 1/2 full. Cool slightly.

Refrigerate until set, at least 6 hours.
Spoon the berries atop the panna cotta and serve.

From what i read in the comments, it's best to leave them overnight. Hope i won't be lazy to try it out!
